Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the PTA?
The PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) is a volunteer-based organisation that brings together parents, teachers, and school staff to work collaboratively for the benefit of the school community. The PTA supports and enhances the educational experience of students by organising events, fundraising, providing resources, and fostering communication between parents and educators. It provides a platform for parents to get involved in school activities, voice concerns, and help create a positive environment for students and families. Joining the PTA is a great way to stay connected with your child's school and contribute to its success.
  • How can I join the PTA?
Everyone is automatically part of the PTA, whether or not you attend official meetings. Your involvement is valued and necessary to help support the school and your children's learning journey. If you’d like to get more involved, you can speak to your child’s PTA Class Rep, who will be asking for help, suggestions, and feedback throughout the year (they are very active in the class WhatsApp groups). Additionally, you can submit ideas or express interest in volunteering by sending us an email to asptainfo@gmail.com. We regularly organise events such as the Christmas and summer fairs, Easter egg hunt, Discos and more, and your support makes them successful. There’s always room for more involvement, so feel free to reach out and join in any way you can!
  • How often do I need to attend meetings?
The expectation is for PTA members to attend at least two meetings per term. These meetings will now be a blend of online and in-person, making it easier for you to join in the way that best suits your schedule. While attending meetings is encouraged, your support outside of meetings—through volunteering at events or providing feedback—is also highly valued. Whether you attend all meetings or just a few, your involvement makes a big difference to the success of the PTA and the school community.
  • What can the PTA fund?
The PTA raises funds that are used to enhance the educational experience of students and improve the school environment. Last year, the PTA funded a range of valuable resources, including: An annual subscription to First News for the school Year 6 leavers’ books End of year entertainer for Nursery Maths equipment to support the curriculum Large canvas sails for shade in the playground Visits from various theatre groups Playground equipment Astroturf for playground areas £1500 worth of new books for the library A significant contribution towards a new Clavinova electric piano In addition to these, the PTA has also provided ad hoc treats such as class-specific resources, Year 6 theatre trips, refreshments at sports days, and Christmas crackers for lunch. The PTA funds a variety of initiatives based on the needs and suggestions of both teachers and the school community, and it continually strives to support and enrich the educational journey of all students.
  • What is the PTA unable to fund?
While the PTA supports a wide range of initiatives to enhance the school experience, there are certain things it is unable to fund. These include: Staff salaries or any form of payment for school staff Basic operational costs of the school, such as utilities or rent Curriculum costs that are the responsibility of the school’s funding Items that are considered personal to individual students, such as uniforms or school trips (unless specifically related to an event or educational activity funded by the PTA) The PTA’s focus is on providing additional resources and enriching the student experience through fundraising efforts, supporting school-wide activities, and purchasing items that benefit all students.
